Have you ever set a goal for yourself that you didn’t achieve? I think we all have, and we can all agree that it doesn’t feel good. It can feel even worse when we set the same goal over and over and continue to fall short.
Over time this starts to chip away at our belief in our ability to create the change we’re looking for. In other words, it becomes a real confidence killer.
This is a bad cycle….but here’s the good news...it’s one that we’re going to break together this year!
The first step in breaking the cycle is better understanding what the root problem is, which is simply this: WE SET OURSELVES UP TO FAIL! In one 2014 study, researchers found that 35% of the participants who failed their New Year’s Resolutions said they had set unrealistic goals.
Thinking that goals can be achieved in big leaps and bounds is a sure way to set yourself up to fail. On the other hand, if you want to succeed, you should be breaking your goal down into as many small and achievable steps as possible. Don’t get hung up on tomorrow, just focus on what you can do today, right now! This is how you create momentum for yourself and build your confidence in your ability to execute. Ultimately, each one of these steps will take you closer and closer to your big goal!
The goal was to take these basic principles of progress, and organize them into a fun and challenging format, where there’s built-in accountability, encouragement, support and recognition. Sometimes we all need a little extra push to get the ball rolling. This challenge is all about helping you build the right momentum and habits.
They say it only takes 21 days of consistency to create a habit, yet unfortunately too many of us struggle with the consistency necessary to properly form that habit - but that’s about to change! You’re going to break that cycle and set yourself up to succeed - and we’re here to help!
Getting started is easy. We’ve done the first couple of steps for you. All you need to do is decide on what your achievable fitness goal for this year is. Once you’ve decided that we’re going to break that down into the smaller goal of consistently taking action for 21-days, to help build the habits that you need to succeed. The next thing we’re going to do is break that 21-day goal into three (3) smaller weekly goals, of completing all your workouts for the week. Lastly we’re going to break that weekly goal into daily goals of just getting your workout in for the day. That’s all you need to worry about - just one workout at a time!
Throughout this challenge, we will be your backbone to kicking off your health goals, so you will stay committed to seeing them through. Believe in yourself to create change. You have what it takes to be successful.
